Need a writing expert? One with extensive publishing and teaching/training experience? To guide and energise your staff or students?

Trevor Day has written or co-authored more than 40 published books in 17 languages, along with 70-plus peer-reviewed articles and 30-plus articles for the national/international press. He has composed guidebooks, press releases and educational materials for some of the most prestigious organisations in the UK, including research councils, science activity centres and top-ten universities.

OK so far, but what is he like as a trainer/facilitator? Trevor receives strong praise from course participants, including ‘Inspiring', ‘The best course I have done on this programme' and ‘Your practical guidance has made a real difference to my feelings about writing, and my productivity!' Staff developers also notice the impact of his work with early-career teaching and research staff: 'Over the few years I have been here, I have personally witnessed how your workshops have transformed the way university teachers viewed their teaching.'

Trevor Day was a Fellow of the Royal Literary Fund (RLF) at the University of Bath 2007-2011, and is now a writing consultant and facilitator at Bath and elsewhere, and heads writing-related research and development projects. In 2010-2011 he headed the National HE STEM project on Writing Skills for STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) graduates and is involved in subsequent dissemination activities. Currently, Trevor sits on a six-person National Thinktank for the Royal Literary Fund, to help advise on the expansion of the RLF's extensive programme of support to Higher Education, which has reached some 100 UK universities in the last 10 years.

Trevor has been running a writing business since 1992, is a qualified teacher, holds a PhD in Education from the University of Bath, and has extensive commercial and academic writing and training experience. Trevor publishes articles on academic writing and researches and writes case studies that interpret academic research for non-academic audiences. Such case studies highlight the impact of research for the economy, environment and society.

Originally a marine biologist, Trevor is unusual in having research and writing experience that encompasses science and social science. He has the ‘soft skills' to work with course participants on sensitive issues and the ‘hard skills' to respond to an organisation's needs. And he is always learning, keeping up with new developments in higher education and commerce to invigorate his practice and to pass on his insights to others (see Resources).
